Field Notes: Cartography, 36x36

$1,200.00

A map is never the place itself. It is a translation of it: a decision about what matters, what connects, what becomes a boundary and what gets left out.

Field Notes: Cartography imagines the attempt to translate an unfamiliar world into something that can be navigated. Its marks suggest routes, territories and points of reference, but resist becoming a fixed or authoritative map. Instead, the work considers how we impose order on what we discover—and how every map inevitably reveals something about the person who made it.

To chart an unknown world is therefore an act of both discovery and imagination. We do not simply record what we find. We create ways of understanding it.

36×36, acrylic.
